CASE STUDY

United Nation Office for Project Services

UNOPS has started this project with the help of Ministry of Health of India, for distribution of free medicine in India. The project is controlled from UNOPS Singapore, with India headquarters in New Delhi.

Purpose: The purpose of the project is to eliminate deficiency of vitamin A and Iron in women and children in India. The target is coverage of all district headquarters and to reaching the remotest corners of the country. The medicines are dispatched to Government Hospitals in all district head quarters in form of ‘Kit A’ and ‘Kit B’, packed in two kits for easy identification. These medicines are not available in chemist shops, and are specially manufactured to distribute to these hospitals.

Joining Hands: Gati came forward to participate in this noble cause and joined hands with Piramal Health Care who has got the project from UNOPS for distribution of these medicines. Piramal chose Gati as their logistics service provider evaluating Gati’s brand image, network, IT strength, reliability and safety of delivery. The project also requires significant strength in terms of vehicle requirement with an average of 15 vehicles required per day to complete the project within timelines.

The pick up points for the kits are at locations not in the metros or cities and delivery destinations spanning across the country. Along with the distribution of medicines to all district head quarters in India, Gati is also offering value added service in terms of taking acknowledgement in Consignee Receipt Certificate ( CRC) and Consignee Acceptance Certificate ( CAC ) along with POD (Proof Of Delivery). The acknowledgement needs to be signed by the doctors of the hospital, a daunting task as the doctors are always not available in the hospital at the time of delivery of the shipment.

Gati has taken up the challenge and is in the process of successful execution of the project, surmounting the tremendous initial challenges.
